
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
William D. LaRue, a married father of two, is an award-winning journalist, a former reporter and copy editor for The Post-Standard in Syracuse, N.Y., and a retired website producer for Advance Local.
He has authored five published books, including 1985's "CANDY: True Tales of a 1st Cavalry Soldier in the Korean War and Occupied Japan," co-written with his father, Kenneth J. LaRue; the 2018 memoir "CAPTAIN PUCKETT: Sea Stories of a former Panama Canal Pilot," co-written with Kenneth P. Puckett; and 2021's "A STRANGER KILLED KATY: The True Story of Katherine Hawelka, Her Murder on a New York Campus, and How Her Family Fought Back," published in January 2021.
His newest book is "THE LONG SHADOW OF KATY'S KILLER: Parole Hearings and Other Updates to 'A Stranger Killed Katy'," published in 2025.
